Great@8 Success Stories
Summer Update
We've had a busy summer! Our Great@8 program kicked off with this happy ending!
Mother dog near Licking, MO had 7 puppies. We provided routine deworming and vaccinations, as well as an exercise pen, supplies and education to prevent them from contracting Parvo. Once they were 8 weeks old, we took 5 to rescue where they were fixed and adopted into loving homes.
Family members decided to keep two puppies, so they were neutered. This was the final litter for this tired Mother dog who had several in the past. We also facilitated the spay of the family's other female dog - ending the cycle of overpopulation for them.
HUGE thank you to Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA) who helped us find homes for these cuties!
Fall Update - New Family!
'Very excited to be working with a new family for Great@8 just outside of Bucyrus, MO.
Mom is an Australian Shepherd and has previously had one litter - her owner found puppies homes. This litter, she had 9 puppies.
We found Mom and 1 week-old pups living in a portable building to shield them from the elements - but without insulation. Their owner had put up a heat lamp to help with warmth.
We came with supplies and assisted the owner with lining the crate with cardboard, soft blankets, a waterproof pad and puppy pads. This helped them to have a more comfortable place to lay (before and after pics attached), provided insulation to keep them off of the cold floor and to be kept dry.
The puppies were shivering when we arrived. At this age, they cannot regulate their body temperature - so heat is CRITICAL. Check out the Before and After photos below!
We left nutritious food, more potty pads, sheets, toys and bowls. We vaccinated Mom and gave her flea/tick preventative and dewormer.
While there, we noticed many cats - all well fed but none are spayed/neutered. The previous resident on the adjacent property left behind a colony of cats who migrated to her property. There were 40+ at one time, but she is unsure how many there are currently. We counted 6 nearby. Our next challenge is to get them trapped and fixed.

February Visit - New Family!
During our winter visit with our whole team in February, we spent time with a family near Cabool, Missouri who has a menagerie of family pets - including pigs!
Mom is a tired mix, and with 11 puppies in one litter, it's easy to see why she looks so weary!
During our visit on Valentine's Day weekend, we were able to weigh, deworm, and vaccinate all 11 puppies, as well as spend quality time naming puppies and listening to those telltale grunts that puppies make. It's not hard to believe this was one of the highlights of our trip!
We came with supplies and assisted the owner with lining kiddy pools with soft blankets, and providing puppy pads. When these little ones reach their spay/neuter age, they're off to get fixed and then to be networked with our partner organizations to find new homes. Mom is also set to be spayed so she can enjoy a kid-free life once this group is ready to leave the nest.
This resident has a number of pets on her property, including 2 pigs, a chicken, a cat, and some other canines. All are friends and they had us laughing more than once.
